According to data from Johns Hopkins University, as of March 26, the US recorded 82,404 cases of Covid-19, while data from the New York Times showed that 81,321 people in the US were positive for Covid-19.

According to updated data from Worldometers, on March 26, the US recorded a record of nearly 15,500 Covid-19 cases and 182 deaths.

Thus, the US officially surpassed China and Italy, becoming the country with the most people infected with Covid-19 pneumonia.

The US also currently records at least 1,178 deaths from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, updated data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is often slower than external statistics.

New York hot spot

Hospitals in the US, especially in hot spots like New York, are being overloaded because the number of Covid-19 patients is increasing rapidly while hospitals are not equipped with enough ventilators and protective equipment.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference yesterday: `No matter the scenario, the health system will be overwhelmed. We need a large number of ventilators, much larger than the number available.`

Louisiana Alert

New York is currently the epicenter of the epidemic in the US, but Louisiana could become the next hot spot.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said that the state currently records about 1,800 cases of Covid-19, of which at least 83 have died, while hospitals are starting to run out of beds and ventilators.

The epidemic peak may be in April

Experts at the Institute for Health Evaluation and Research (IHME) at Washington University School of Medicine, the Covid-19 epidemic may peak next April.

Also according to IHME’s forecast model, hospitals across the United States will fall into overload and need more beds for intensive treatment.
